Answers to Your Plumbing Repair Questions

Why is my faucet leaking?

Over time, the seal inside faucets can become worn and become ineffective. There are several plumbing repair options when fixing a leaking faucet. Sometimes, it is possible to simply replace the worn seal. However, many people choose to replace the old faucet with a new one. In addition to aesthetic benefits, this repair prevents future problems as the other components of your old faucet continue to wear.

What is the difference between an inexpensive faucet and the more expensive models?

Faucets are made with a wide range of materials, styles, and features. With a more expensive faucet, you can expect higher quality. For example, some are made of solid brass or chrome plated brass that are more attractive, work better, and last longer.

I want to replace my faucet. Does the new faucet need the same number of handles?

Most faucet dimensions and sink openings are standard in the plumbing  industry. Generally, you have some flexibility with this type of plumbing repair.  For example, you can replace a single-handle faucet with a two-handle faucet. Still, make sure to check the sizes before purchasing a new faucet.

What is the best way to clean my polished brass faucet?

Never use cleansers that contain abrasives, harsh chemicals, alcohol or other solvents. Instead, simply dampen a cloth with warm water and rub the water spots off. To polish and bring your faucet back to its original shine, use a high quality car wax that does not contain abrasives.

How can I improve the long term performance of my water heater?

Over time, sediment and lime deposits can collect in water heaters. This makes your water heater less effective because the burner must heat the water through the sediment, which acts as a barrier. This means that it will cost more to operate your water heater because more fuel is required to heat the water. It is recommended to regularly clean your water heater to remove the sediment.  This plumbing service will maintain its performance over time.

What are the benefits of a “pressure balancing” shower faucet?

You have probably noticed that the temperature of your shower can be affected by other plumbing system use in the home, like flushing a toilet or starting the dishwasher. A pressure balancing shower faucet prevents the temperature in the shower from changing by sensing and compensating for changes in hot and cold water pressure that occur from other water use.
